As Stephen L. Carter has pointed out, when I say integrity, I have something very simple and very clear in mind. Integrity requires three steps:

1) Distinguish what is right from what is wrong,

2) Carry out what you have studied, even if you suffer a loss, and

3) State openly that you are implementing based on your understanding of what is right and what is wrong.

The first criterion captures the notion of integrity as something that demands a degree of moral reflection.

The second stage brings in the ideal of someone who has integrity as a person who is firm which includes the feeling of fulfilling promises.

The third stage reminds us that a person with integrity is not shy about doing the right thing.
