Today’s Legal Enlightenment (Friday, 23 September 2022) – DEFAMATION RESULTS IN MATERIAL LOSS
A person or legal entity who suffers because they are defamed can be said to have suffered material loss. The Supreme Court’s decision No. 371 K/Sip/1973, dated 22 October 1975, is the basis for a legal construction that “a damaged reputation can cause harm.” Even though “reputation” is abstract, damage to reputation can impact material losses. For example, the reputational damage to a person or legal entity would affect their business or life continuity.
